Hello! I’m Sara, a Canadian journalist, writer, and communications professional.
I’ve lived and worked in a city by the sea, a ski resort town in the mountains, and capitals on three continents.
Originally from Ottawa, I’m interested in the intersection of Canada’s many cultures and there’s nothing I enjoy more than searching out interesting people and sharing their stories.
Most recently, I worked as a multimedia journalist at the Banff Centre, where I pitched and produced podcast and article content for the various publication streams. At home and abroad I’ve worked with a variety of not-for-profits producing content and developing communities of artists and innovators.
I love my work in communications because I live to learn and there are always new technologies to harness, new strategies to try and new partners to work with. I enjoy translating ideas into fully-realized projects and translating experts for their target audiences–et il ne doit pas nécessairement être anglais, je peux le faire en français aussi.
I’ve taken a lot of leaps in my career and landed on my feet. From running my own fundraising event to increasing online engagement, I’m keen to master every aspect of marketing. A high point for me was when I stretched my skill set and successfully managed the details of rebranding a company. For more of my work experience visit my LinkedIn.
In 2014 I finished my master’s in creative writing with a thesis that worked as a collection of short stories. I continue to polish the collection in my free time. The rest of my free time I try to spend outside hiking, camping, skiing, taking photos, and exploring. But sometimes I get sidetracked by a good book and end up on my third cup of tea. This seems to happen more in February…
I have a lifelong obsession with travel and a perpetual inability to rock the traveller’s unshowered chic (so it’s mainly scenery you’ll see in my gallery). I’ve travelled extensively through North America, Europe, Africa, and in 2011 popped over to India for what has to be my favourite trip.
I am always on the lookout for freelance opportunities. Please get in touch to chat or challenge me.
